Hammers defender linked with Premier League move in January

Promotion-chasing West Ham have warned potential suitors they will have to pay 'mega bucks' for defender James Tomkins. Tomkins has been linked with a January move to Premier League side Newcastle after a fine season for the Hammers in the Championship. It is believed the high-flying Magpies have already had a £3million bid turned down by the Upton Park club. Hammers boss Sam Allardyce admits he is anticipating further offers for the 22-year-old when the transfer window reopens.

Interest

But he said: "While there might be some interest in James, it would have to be mega bucks for us to even consider it. "Not that we want to, but you never know what's around the corner. It would be the same for anybody else. "We just have to wait and see." West Ham are discussing a new long-term deal with their prized asset as they look to bounce straight back to the top-flight. Tomkins already has two-and-a-half years left on his current contract.
