Quique Sanchez Flores hopes his Watford side will be "competitive" when they take on Premier League leaders Manchester City on Saturday.

The Hornets and City are both unbeaten this season so far, although Watford's three games have all ended in draws and Manuel Pellegrini's side are the only one in the top division with a 100 per cent winning record.

But Sanchez Flores is not changing his approach as he prepares his side for their biggest challenge of the season so far, despite the amount of attacking options he is looking to stifle at the Etihad Stadium.

"They have a lot of tools, and a lot of players with different characteristics - the power of Aguero, the intelligence of Silva, the football of Yaya Toure. We will try to solve this," Flores said.

"For us it is very important to prepare a good plan and a good strategy, with the idea to be competitive. In football everything is possible.

"We are happy with our results in the league and we are in a good position in the table. Of course we have a very tough opponent, but my approach does not change."

Watford did suffer defeat in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night - going out 1-0 to Sky Bet Championship side Preston - and it extended their goalless streak to three games, but Sanchez Flores is sure their luck in front of goal will soon turn.

"To score or not to score is sometimes a question of millimetres," he added. "The chances we have we need to score, but we have good chances in matches.

"To score is important if you want to win, but we have scored two goals and we have conceded two goals in three league games, and for me at the start of the season the most important thing is the balance."
