Dowie spurned in bid for stopper

Skysports.com understands Birmingham have rejected a bid from Coventry for Martin Taylor. The Sky Blues made their move for the big defender as they look to bolster their squad before the close of the transfer window. Taylor is believed to be open to a move away from St Andrews in search of regular first-team football. The former Blackburn youngster enjoyed a successful spell at Norwich on loan earlier this season and the Championship club were keen to make the move permanent. However, the Carrow Road outfit were unable to agree a fee with Birmingham and Taylor returned to St Andrews. Coventry are believed to have made an offer in the region of £1million for Taylor, but Birmingham have rejected the bid. Birmingham are thought to be not willing to sell Taylor unless they bring in a replacement and thus far they have been thwarted in their attempts to sign a new defender, with Gary Cahill choosing to move to Bolton instead of St Andrews.
