Irish defender agrees two-year contract

Ipswich defender Shane O'Connor has agreed a new deal that will keep him at the club until summer 2012. The Irish defender joined the club at the start of last season from Liverpool before going on to become manager Roy Keane's first choice at left-back for the Tractor Boys. The 20-year-old is highly rated by Keane as a bright prospect for the future, and he was delighted to have agreed new terms with the club. "Obviously I'm delighted to have been given the opportunity to stay at the club," O'Connor said. "The deal was agreed a while back but it's good to put my signature on the contract. "I really enjoyed last year and was pleased with the progress I made. Now I've got to look to build on that this year."
