Checkatrade Trophy round-up: Charlton hit eight in rout of Stevenage

Toby Stevenson scored a hat-trick as Charlton thrashed Stevenage 8-0 in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday night.

George Lapslie netted twice in the win along with goals from Darren Pratley, Nicky Ajose and Igor Vetokele.

Oxford United's poor run of form continued as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Northampton. James Henry gave Oxford the lead but Northampton replied with second-half goals from Kevin van Veen and Aaron Pierre.

Brighton Under-21s won on penalties against Peterborough after a 2-2 draw.

Matt Godden and Jason Cummings put Posh 2-0 ahead but Brighton levelled through goals from Aaron Connolly and Jordan Davies. Brighton then scored all five of their penalties after Godden missed for Posh.

Luton beat MK Dons 3-0 thanks to goals from Alan Sheehan, Kazenga LuaLua and Jorge Grant.

Coventry beat Forest Green on penalties after a 1-1 draw while Bristol Rovers beat Yeovil 2-0 and Colchester won by the same scoreline against Southend.

Tottenham Under-21s won 4-0 at Gillingham thanks to goals from Jack Roles, Paris Maghoma, Jaden Brown and Dylan Duncan.

Portsmouth won 1-0 at Crawley thanks to a first-half strike by Dion Donohue, while Lincoln overcome Scunthorpe on penalties after a 1-1 draw, the Iron missing three of their four kicks as the Imps prevailed 3-1.

League Two Mansfield overcame Wolves Under-21s 2-1 thanks to goals from Jacob Mellis and Malvind Benning, while Newcastle Under-21s won 2-0 at Notts County.

Elsewhere, Port Vale beat Burton 1-0, West Brom Under-21s won 2-1 at Blackpool and Accrington thumped struggling Macclesfield, who are bottom of the EFL, 4-1.

There were also wins for Rochdale and Sunderland, who won 3-0 at Fleetwood and beat Carlisle 3-1 at home respectively.

Stoke Under-21s overcame Morecambe 2-1, Swindon won 3-0 away at Plymouth and Doncaster returned to winning ways by seeing off Grimsby 2-0.

There were big wins for Oldham, Cambridge and Tranmere. Oldham cruised to a 4-1 win at Bradford, Cambridge hammered four past Southampton Under-21s and Shrewsbury smashed six past Tranmere with no reply. Walsall beat Middlesbrough Under-21s 3-1.
