Di Matteo to leave out skipper following Fulham mistake

Roberto Di Matteo has revealed that Scott Carson will be left out against Blackpool in favour of Boaz Myhill. Carson is West Brom's captain and has been an ever-present in the Premier League this season, but his place came under threat following a mistake against in the defeat at Fulham last week. Myhill was given the chance to start in Saturday's FA Cup tie at Reading and made a positive impression despite the 1-0 reverse. Di Matteo had previously admitted that he faced a difficult decision but he has now made his mind up to go with Myhill. "I've decided I'm going to give Boaz Myhill a chance on Saturday," Di Matteo told the club's official website. "I thought he did well on Saturday in the cup and he will be in goal. "Scott is very disappointed. He is club captain as well and it is the first time he has been left out. "But it is something he needs to get through, put his head down and work himself up again. "It was a difficult decision, but I needed to give Boaz a chance."

Stronger

Chris Brunt will wear the armband in Carson's absence and Di Matteo hopes the deposed goalkeeper will respond to the disappointment in the right way. "Only time will tell if Scott comes back stronger for it," said the manager. "But he's still a young boy and I'm sure he will get through it. "With a keeper it's a bit different because they don't get as many chances to play as the outfield players. "But when someone deserves a chance, I'll give them the opportunity. "Chris Brunt will be the captain on Saturday."
