Southampton are unlikely to complete a deal for Spartak Moscow winger Quincy Promes with the Russian club struggling to replace the Dutchman, according to Sky sources.

We understand Saints have offered the fee Spartak want for Promes, which is in the region of £30m, but without a replacement the Russian champions are reluctant to let him leave.

Promes, who is under contract in Moscow until June 2021, played a key role in Spartak's league title success last season and was named Footballer of the Year in Russia in 2017.

The former FC Twente winger has continued his fine form this season, scoring 15 goals in 25 games in all competitions for Spartak this term.

Southampton have already broken their transfer record this month with the acquisition of Guido Carrillo, who arrived at St Mary's in a £19.1m deal from Monaco.

At the start of the January transfer window, Southampton sold Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool in a £75m world-record fee for a defender.
