Stoke boss Mark Hughes has labelled new signing Jese Rodriguez an "elite player" following his arrival from Paris Saint-Germain.

The 24-year old joined Stoke City on a season-long loan on Wednesday after moving to the French capital from Real Madrid for £21m last year.

Rodriguez is a two-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid and Hughes feels his services will add a great deal of quality to the Potters' squad.

"The top and bottom of it is that he's an elite player," Hughes told Stoke City+

"When you get the opportunity to bring one of those level of players to your club you have to try and pursue it to its conclusion."

The forward spent the second half of last season on-loan as Las Palmas, scoring three goals in 16 La Liga games, in order to revive his career following a spell of injuries and setbacks.

"You won't get many of them over the line," added Hughes.

"I think everybody will see within minutes of him being on the field that he is a high-level player and one that we will benefit from."
