Stoke City have signed right-back Moritz Bauer from Russian side Rubin Kazan for an undisclosed fee.
Bauer, who was born in Switzerland and played for his homeland as a youth player, switched his allegiances to Austria and made his senior debut against Wales in September 2017.
He has signed a four-and-a-half year deal at the bet365 Stadium.
The 25-year-old started his career with Grasshoppers but left for Russia in 2016 for a fee of around £3.5m.
He has been a regular in Kazan's starting XI this season, also playing at times on the right side of midfield.
Chief executive Tony Scholes said: "Moritz is a player we have been trailing for some time and was someone Mark Hughes wanted to bring into the club.
"Moritz came over to England last week to undergo his medical and discuss terms and we have now been able to conclude his transfer.
"He's a very highly-regarded player who broke into the Austrian senior side last year and he adds to the defensive resources at our disposal."
Bauer has signed a four-and-a-half year deal with Stoke and his first chance to play for his new team could come on Monday Night Football, when the managerless Potters take on Manchester United at Old Trafford.
