Crystal Palace have recalled Sullay Kaikai from his loan at Brentford with Wilfried Zaha bound for the African Cup of Nations.

Sky Sports News HQ understands that Palace boss Sam Allardyce wants to have a close look at the winger and whether he can stand in for Zaha when he jets off to play for Ivory Coast later this month.

Kaikai joined Brentford on a season-long deal in the summer and the 21-year-old netted three times in 18 appearances for the Bees, including both goals in the 2-2 draw at home to Cardiff on Boxing Day.

Palace, who are also interested in signing Swansea winger Modou Barrow this month, will lose winger Zaha after Tuesday's Premier League match against the Swans and he could be away until early February.

Brentford were already on the look out for a new winger themselves in the current transfer window, and head coach Dean Smith said: "We would have loved to have kept hold of Sullay.

"He is a player with great potential and he has made an impact for us, particularly in recent matches. This is his first taste of Championship football and he has made the step up.

"He is a Crystal Palace player and they have exercised their option to recall him.

"They have players going to the African Cup of Nations and have lots of games coming up, so Sullay may be in line to play in the Premier League for them.

"They also have a new manager in Sam Allardyce and I am sure he wants to look at Sullay. I wish him all the best for the rest of this season and thank him for his efforts during his time here."
