Aberdeen have signed Republic of Ireland international Stephen Gleeson on a free transfer.

The midfielder has agreed to move to Pittodrie after leaving Ipswich Town when his short-term deal with the Championship club came to an end.

Gleeson is Aberdeen's third signing of the summer after Lewis Ferguson and Chris Forrester also joined the Scottish Premiership club.

Boss Derek McInnes said: "I'm delighted to bring his experience to Aberdeen. He's exactly the type of player we wanted for that role.

"He's got the qualities to be a very good player, both on and off the pitch and as a club we'll be able to give him what he demands of himself.

"Following the news about Lewis and then Chris a couple of weeks ago, I'm excited to see what these players can bring to the club."

Gleeson made over 200 appearances for MK Dons before spending three and half seasons at Birmingham City.
