Ipswich have signed Noel Hunt on a free transfer after being released by Leeds earlier in the week.

The 32-year-old striker, who spent December on loan at Portman Road, has signed a short-term deal at Portman Road through to the end of June.

During his short spell at in-form Ipswich last month, the Irishman came on as a second-half substitute in four games and scored a last-minute winner at Charlton.

Hunt has already been allocated the No 16 shirt and may be included in the squad to face promotion rivals Derby at the weekend.

Hunt, 32, is the younger brother of Stephen who is also on the books at Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich.

He was also part of the Reading squad which won promotion to the Premier League in 2012.

Manager McCarthy said of the signing: “Noel had his contract cancelled at Leeds and I’m delighted to have him back.
