League One round-up: Shrewsbury beat Bristol Rovers to return to top of table

Shrewsbury returned to the top of Sky Bet League One on Tuesday night after an impressive 4-0 victory at home to Bristol Rovers.

All the damage was done in the first half at the New Meadow, with the result also ensuring the Shrews remain unbeaten.

Goals from Alex Rodman, Carlton Morris, Jon Nolan and Junior Brown mean they go two points clear at the top.

The Shrews overtake Wigan at the summit after the Latics were held 1-1 by a stubborn Gillingham side at the Priestfield Stadium.

Sam Morsy's brilliant strike from 25 yards cancelled out Thomas Eaves' headed opener as the high-flying Latics had to settle for a point.

Bradford missed the opportunity to close ground on Wigan in second place after they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Oldham.

Fourth-placed Rotherham were beaten 3-1 at AFC Wimbledon as Kyle Taylor's hat-trick helped the Dons move up to 18th in the table.

There was a 1-1 draw between fifth and sixth as Oxford United and Charlton could not be split, but Blackpool have moved up to seventh after a 2-1 win at home to Bury.

Meanwhile, Doncaster Rovers beat Portsmouth 2-1 thanks to early strikes from Liam Mandeville and Tommy Rowe to climb to 17th.

Mathieu Baudry's own goal gave Pompey hope but Dion Donohue's sending off with 21 minutes remaining diminished hopes of a comeback.

Elsewhere, Blackburn drew 1-1 at home to rock-bottom Plymouth Argyle, who remain six points adrift of safety.

Argyle took the lead at Ewood Park through Graham Carey's sublime opener but Bradley Dack's goal on the stroke of half-time meant a share of the spoils.

Rochdale moved out of the bottom four after drawing 2-2 at home to Northampton Town. The hosts were two goals to the good after an hour thanks to a brace from Ian Henderson, but Matthew Taylor and David Buchanan scored to rescue a point for the Cobblers.

Walsall and MK Dons drew 1-1, while Southend versus Peterborough and Scunthorpe versus Fleetwood Town also ended with the same scoreline.
