Swansea have had a bid in the region of £17m for forward Islam Slimani rejected by Sporting Lisbon, according to Sky sources.

The Swans are looking to bolster their forward line after allowing Andre Ayew and Bafetimbi Gomis to leave the Liberty Stadium this summer.

They have already acquired the services of Spain international Fernando Llorente ahead of the new Premier League season and remain in talks over a deal to sign Borja Baston from Atletico Madrid for a club record £15m.

Slimani scored 31 times last season as Sporting just missed out on the Primeira Liga title, finishing two points behind eventual champions Benfica.

The 28-year-old, who has netted 23 times in 43 appearances for Algeria, joined Sporting in 2013 and has four years left to run on his current contract with the Portuguese club.
