Marc Wilson has praised his former manager, Mark Hughes, after appearing to criticise the Stoke City boss publicly on social media.

Republic of Ireland international Wilson had previously been involved in Twitter exchanges with supporters in which he expressed his frustration at Hughes over his lack of game time.

Days later, Hughes revealed he was prepared to let defender Wilson leave the club but said the decision had been made before the defender's social media outburst.

The 28-year-old subsequently joined Bournemouth AFC for £2m on Monday.

Speaking exclusively to SSN HQ, Wilson revealed that there was no bad blood between him and Hughes and his departure had been mutually agreed on.

"Myself and Mark [Hughes] came to the agreement that it was time for me to leave," he explained.

"I wanted to be playing regular football, or given the chance to at least."

"The gaffer [Hughes] has done a terrific job. Three top ten finishes in three years. His record speaks for itself.

"Most places he's been, he's done a very good job. Overall he's done a terrific job."
