Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe says he's not surprised by Burnley's good start to the season and is pleased for his former employers

Eddie Howe says Burnley’s good start to the season should come as no surprise as his former club continue to “over-achieve” in the Premier League.

Burnley finished 16th in the league last season with 40 points, but have already secured over half that total (22) during this campaign and sit seventh in the table.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, made a slow start to the season and lost their first four league games but their form has recovered and will hope to extend their unbeaten run to four matches when they host Burnley on Wednesday.

Howe, who left the Cherries to manage Burnley in 2011 before returning the following year, is pleased with the progress of his former employers.

"You can never be surprised by what Burnley do. They've continually over-achieved for a long period of time in the Premier League. They've been excellent.

"They're very tough to play against and quite unique in their style and how they play. You know what they're going to do but it's very hard to beat it."

On his ultimately disappointing move to Burnley, Howe said: "It was a really tough challenge but something I needed.

"I have no regrets. I only have fond memories of the people at Burnley, the supporters and the people around the club.

"We tried to leave a solid foundation behind us for the next generation but the people that deserve the credit for the club's rise are the board, players and the manager.

"I'm so pleased to see them doing so well in the Premier League."
