Daggers maintain title push

Dagenham stay hot on the heels of pacesetters Bournemouth as they inflicted a 1-0 defeat at Burton.

Benson's eighth goal of the season enough for Daggers

Paul Benson's eighth goal of the season kept Dagenham hot on the heels of League Two pacesetters Bournemouth as Burton paid for a missed penalty and a red card in a 1-0 defeat. The only goal of an entertaining encounter came in the fourth minute after Jon Nurse had flicked on a Scott Griffiths cross and Benson made the most of poor defending to beat Artur Krysiak from close range. Burton should have been level in the 19th minute but Andy Corbett amazingly failed to convert a low cross from the dangerous Robin Shroot. Benson had the chance to double the away side's lead two minutes later but fired over with only Krysiak to beat from 10 yards. Albion had another chance to level before the break but, after being brought down by Will Antwi, striker Shaun Harrad saw his spot-kick bounce to safety off the legs of Tony Roberts. Shroot and Harrad wasted more chances to restore parity after the break, and Burton's hopes were further dented when skipper Guy Branston was sent off for a professional foul on Benson in the 61st minute. The home side's hopes of rescuing a point were ended when substitute Greg Pearson's effort was ruled offside in the 81st minute.
