Swindon are set to appoint Richie Wellens as their new manager, Sky Sports News understands.

The 38-year-old has held talks with owner and chairman Lee Power about succeeding Phil Brown, who was sacked on Sunday.

It is also understood that Noel Hunt, who is currently assistant coach and player at Waterford - another club owned and run by Power - is poised to arrive as Wellens' assistant.

Wellens - a Manchester United youth player until 1999 - lost his job at Oldham Athletic after overseeing their relegation to Sky Bet League Two last season.
