Robbie Neilson is confident he will be given time to make his mark on English football after leaving Hearts to become Milton Keynes Dons manager.
The 36-year-old made what was seen by some as a surprising move when he left Tynecastle to join the struggling Sky Bet League One club as a replacement for Karl Robinson.
Hearts are third in the Scottish Premiership table while Milton Keynes are only two points outside the relegation zone in English football's third tier.
But the fact Robinson had been employed by the Dons for more than six years has encouraged Neilson that he will be given time to make a name for himself at a club with a chairman, Pete Winkelman, renowned for his patience.
"I think it's a fantastic opportunity for me," he said. "There is a great infrastructure at the club and it was the right place at the right time for me.
"When you make the job as a football manager, especially when you're coming out of a stable environment, it's really important that you go somewhere you will be given time.
"The chairman has shown through his history of managers that he gives his managers time and support here.
"There have been teams that have spoken to me before but they have never felt right, especially when you're moving from Scotland, you only get one shot at it and you have to make sure it's the right place.
"There have been managers who have moved to England from Scotland who have chosen the wrong club and it can be difficult to progress if you haven't got that stability."
