Jason Pearce and Josh Magennis were on target as Charlton won 2-0 at Shrewsbury to move back into the League One play-off places.

The result leaves Paul Hurst's Shrewsbury five points adrift of the automatic promotion places with four games remaining.

Chances were in short supply at either end in a goalless first half, with Ben Godfrey firing a shot from outside the penalty area off target for Shrewsbury.

Then Aristote Nsiala headed a Shaun Whalley free-kick wide as the hosts pushed for a breakthrough.

Charlton were first to threaten in the second half when Jake Forster-Caskey's corner was headed over by Magennis.

Shrewsbury quickly surged forward and substitute Abo Eisa's cross-shot was pushed away by goalkeeper Ben Amos.

Tarique Fosu's well-struck shot for Charlton was tipped over by Dean Henderson before visiting skipper Pearce headed a Forster-Caskey corner just wide.
