Darren Currie confirmed he wants the Barnet job on a full-time basis after leading the club to a shock FA Cup third-round victory over Championship side Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Currie took over as caretaker-boss last month following John Still's decision to retire and he now has an FA Cup victory to his name after Shaquile Coulthirst's 21st-minute penalty gave the National League side a remarkable victory.

Victory sees Barnet, who go into Monday's fourth-round draw, become the first non-league team to win an FA Cup tie away to Sheffield United since 1911, and Currie was delighted with his players' efforts.

"I'm so proud, honoured to be leading them the way they performed," said Currie.

"I asked them to play with no fear today and I think they managed to achieve that. They were outstanding."

"It's a job I want, it's the place I want to start," he added. "Hopefully today will help me."

It was a particularly special occasion for Currie, whose uncle Tony has a stand named after him at Bramall Lane after a glittering eight-year spell with the Blades from 1968-76.

Asked what his uncle had made of the result, Currie added: "He's proud of me and he felt that we deserved it, that we played very well on the day.

"Naturally he'll be hurting, he wants his team to go through, but he's proud of me and what I've done today."
