Argentine star decides against Rangers season ticket

Barcelona's Lionel Messi has issued a stinging rebuke in the direction of Rangers following the goalless draw which ensued between the two clubs at Ibrox. Tuesday night's stalemate in Glasgow saw Walter Smith's side maintain their unbeaten start in this season's UEFA Champions League but while the Gers faithful were delighted with the result, Messi was decidedly less enamoured. Accusing Rangers of playing 'anti-football' the diminutive playmaker has vowed to eke out revenge in the return leg at Camp Nou. While Rangers could defend their approach by pointing out not only a satisfactory result, but also the fact they missed a couple of decent chances of their own towards the end, Messi is adamant in his verdict. Dismissing Rangers' desire to 'close down' one of the world's best attacking sides, the Argentine is clearly not at one with the SPL club's aesthetic appeal; or rather a lack of it.

Incredible

"It's incredible," he told Spanish daily Sport. "Rangers didn't want to play football. "They practised anti-football from the first minute and it's a shame we couldn't take victory because we created a good number of chances. We just didn't put them away. "I think that when they come to the Nou Camp everything is going to be very different. "We need to find a solution for breaking down a team who close down so much, but I don't believe we will come across many teams who play this way."
