Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Filip Benkovic faces four to six weeks out with an ankle injury.
Benkovic, who is on a season-long loan from Leicester, did not feature in their 2-0 win against St Johnstone on Wednesday night.
Rodgers said after the game that the 21-year-old Croatian felt pain in his ankle following the 3-0 win over Hamilton on Saturday, after several weeks of soreness, but he is unsure on whether Benkovic will return to his parent club.
"He is probably going to be four to six weeks. He's got a couple of weeks with his ankle in the boot and then we'll assess it with a specialist after four weeks. Then it'll probably be a week to 10 days to get him back up to his speed and training rhythm again," said Rodgers.
"He'd had a sore ankle for a number of weeks and then he obviously had some pain in it after the weekend, so we had it scanned and it just needed a bit of time to heal.
Asked whether Benkovic will return to Leicester, Rodgers added: "We're just waiting to see where that's at, we'll have a sit with Filip tomorrow and whether he goes back or not, we'll wait and see."
Rodgers also explained the injury to Benkovic meant Jack Hendry may not go out on loan, although midfielder Lewis Morgan is expected to join Sunderland on a temporary basis.
