Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes and former Celtic man Kris Commons had an interesting exchange on Sunday

Derek McInnes fired back at Kris Commons after he branded the Aberdeen boss forgetting his own starting XI as "ludicrous".

McInnes, who is Rangers' No 1 choice to become their new manager, had to ask Sky Sports' touchline reporter to remind him which changes he had made to the team in his pre-match tunnel interview on Sunday.

After asking "who's the other one again that comes in?" and being reminded it was Adam Rooney, McInnes then remembered Scott Wright and Greg Stewart were also coming into the side.

Sky Sports pundit Commons said: "I cant believe I've just witnessed Derek McInnes forget who's starting. It's absolutely mind-boggling.

"If that doesn't send alarm bells out to Aberdeen supporters today, then nothing will. For a manager that has been at this club for four and a half years to forget who's going to be playing in his starting XI, in such a big game, is ludicrous."

McInnes hit back at full-time after losing 2-1 at home to the Gers - their second defeat to the side inside four days - stating Commons was "wrong" to highlight his error.

"The focus was on winning the game today and that was clear for everybody who maybe doubted our focus," McInnes told Sky Sports.

"I believe Kris Commons said something at the start of the game. That's a pattern from me at times, me maybe not knowing who my changes are. For him to pick up on that is wrong."
