Hearts have rejected a bid from Rangers for midfielder Jamie Walker, according to Sky sources.
The 23-year-old is instrumental in Ian Cathro's midfield and the Edinburgh club tried to get him to sign a new three-year deal earlier in 2017.
Walker rejected the offer and can sign a pre-contract with another club on December 1, for which Hearts would be due training compensation for a player who emerged from their academy.
Hearts manager Cathro recently said that he wanted Walker back and in the right frame of mind for pre-season training ahead of their first Scottish League Cup fixture in July.
Cathro told the Edinburgh Evening News: "I look at it really simply: Jamie is one of my players. He has great talent, a lot of potential and is someone who can be influential.
"He needs to come to work and be ready to fight, progress, grow, push himself and improve himself."
Walker scored 15 goals in 39 appearances last season.
