Rugby Park veteran signs new one-year contract

Kilmarnock defender Garry Hay has expressed his relief at signing a new one-year contract at Rugby Park. The stopper was out of contract this summer and he was one game short of winning an automatic contract. However, manager Kenny Shiels was keen for the club's long-serving player to stay and terms have been thrashed out. Hay feared his 16-year Killie stay could be coming to an end and he is relieved he now knows where he will be playing next term.

Anxious

"Kenny wanted me to sign for another season and I was happy to do that," explained Hay. "I was anxious I might not get a contract and wary of what might happen because I was one game short of getting an automatic deal. "I thought I'd be okay, but you just never know. "Fortunately we managed to get something sorted out."
