Atletico Madrid have moved above Real Madrid and up to second in La Liga after a 1-0 win over Real Betis

Atletico Madrid stretched their unbeaten league run to six games as they beat Betis to go above fierce local rivals Real Madrid in the La Liga table on Sunday.

They now sit in second place, four points behind Barcelona, and are two clear of a Real side which has lost its past two games, including a 4-0 drubbing in Saturday's El Clasico.

A Koke strike in the seventh minute gave Diego Simeone's men the win while Real Betis lost their fourth successive home game to remain in mid-table.

Earlier in the day, relegation-threatened Levante picked up a vital victory over Sporting Gijon and they did it style, winning 3-0 at the El Molinon stadium.

Acosta Deyverson scored twice with Zouhair Vidal adding another as Levante lifted themselves off the foot of the table, moving level on points with the three teams above them and only goal difference keeping them in the bottom three.

One of the sides they are tied with on points is Granada, who also picked up an important win at home to Athletic Bilbao, beating them 2-0.

They were given a helping hand in the fifth minute when Aymeric Laporte scored an own goal before Isaac Success Ajayi added a second on the hour to seal the points for the hosts.
