Barcelona say they have agreed a deal to sign Benfica right-back Nelson Semedo on a five-year contract, pending a medical.
The Spanish giants released a statement on their website saying the 23-year-old will undergo a medical on Friday, though Benfica also released a statement on 24 hours later saying they were still in negotiations with Barca.
Reports in Spain say the Catalans will pay a transfer fee of more than £26m for the Portuguese international.
Semedo, who played for Portugal at the Confederations Cup in Russia earlier this summer and was sent off in the third-place play-off win over Mexico, had been reportedly linked with a move to Manchester United.
He played 63 times for Benfica in the past two seasons, winning two Primeira Liga titles.
Although Benfica admit the defender is undergoing a medical in Barcelona, they issued a statement on Friday announcing that the deal has still not been completed and negotiations are ongoing with Barcelona
Barcelona had earlier said: "FC Barcelona and Benfica have reached an agreement for the transfer of Nélson Semedo, pending medical tests on Friday in Barcelona.
"Semedo is an offensive full-back with superb physical attributes and he will be the ninth Portuguese to defend the Barca shirt."
Barcelona have already re-signed Gerard Deulofeu from Everton on a two-year deal and extended Lionel Messi's contract until 2021.
