Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez insists he "fought more than anyone" to keep Sergio Ramos at the club in the summer.
The Spanish defender was linked with a move away from Bernabeu Stadium this summer and according to Sky sources was the subject of a £28.6m bid from Manchester United.
However Ramos remained in Spain, signed a new 5-year contract and was made club captain following the departure of Iker Casillas to Porto in the summer.
And former Liverpool boss Benitez insists there no problems between player, manager and club insisting he was the driving force behind keeping the 29-year-old Ramos.
"I fought more than anyone for Ramos to stay. There are no problems between us," Benitez told Onda Cero radio.
"He's our captain, an outstanding footballer and he has to keep showing that."
Real are currently second in La Liga with 15 points from seven games, and host Levante on Saturday at 3pm.
