Isco will miss this weekend's Madrid derby after being diagnosed with appendicitis, with the midfielder successfully undergoing surgery on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old has played in all seven of Real Madrid's matches this season and would have been likely to feature against Atletico at the Bernabeu on Saturday.

However, Real manager Julen Lopetegui said Isco was suffering with pain on Tuesday morning, and a Real statement added: "After tests were performed on Isco, he was diagnosed with acute appendicitis.

"Our player has been successfully operated on at the Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital. The intervention was carried out under the supervision of the medical services of Real Madrid."

Speaking ahead of Real's La Liga clash with Sevilla, Lopetegui said: "We wish him a speedy recovery and we'll think about the solutions and those who can play because we have the utmost confidence in them."

The time it takes to recover from an appendectomy - surgery to remove the appendix - ranges, but can take up to four weeks.
