Madrid keen on River Plate starlet

Atletico Madrid have confirmed their interest in signing River Plate starlet Erik Lamela. The 18-year-old is currently regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Argentina but he has already well known around Europe as Barcelona famously tried to buy him when he was aged just 12 only to fail to agree a deal in 2004. Now, more than five years on, Lamela, unlike many before him, is actually progressing in the manner expected. The young attacking midfielder is now again attracting interest from La Liga and Atletico Madrid are leading the chase. Atletico's chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin has confirmed their liking for Lamela. "We are very interested," he confessed to Ole. Reports suggest that Atletico are ready to offer up to €18million for Lamela, and are believed to have expressed their keenness with the player's representatives - who they know well as they are the same company who handle their star Sergio Aguero. Atletico are seemingly keeping a close eye on South America as they are also being closely linked with Brazilians Neymar, Alan Patrick and Alex Sandro.
