Athletic Bilbao veteran Carlos Gurpegi has extended his contract at the club by another season.
The 34-year-old is a product of Bilbao’s youth academy and has made more than 350 appearances for the Basque side after his debut in 2002.
This season he has featured in 36 matches and the announcement comes just a few days after another club veteran, Andoni Iraola, said he will leave at the end of the season.
Gurpegi’s career was marred in 2003 by a two-year ban for testing positive for 19-norandrosterone, a metabolite of the steroid nandrolone.
