Inter Milan scored two late goals to beat Bologna 2-1 at San Siro and move above Fiorentina into fourth place, but saw forward Mauro Icardi forced off early on with a knee injury.

The Nerazzurri lost Icardi just 11 minutes in after he twisted his knee when sliding into the six-yard box trying to convert a cross from Eder.

Icardi will be assessed over the coming days, but looks to be a doubt for the clash with Roma next week.

Inter had look set for an evening of frustration in front of their own supporters before Ivan Perisic headed in at a corner in the 72nd minute.

A volley from Danilo D'Ambrosio following another set-play made it 2-0 just four minutes later.

Franco Brienza netted a consolation in the 89th minute with an angled drive, which was Bologna's first Serie A goal since February 14.

Empoli earned a 1-1 draw with Sampdoria at the Stadio Castellani with a first career goal from defender Vincent Laurini.

Sampdoria, who had moved clear of the relegation battle with successive Serie A wins, took the lead after 42 minutes somewhat against the run of play when Fabio Quagliarella's shot on the turn was deflected into the top corner off Laurini.

However, Empoli, who had not won for nine matches and lost four in a row, grabbed a point when the French defender headed in a free-kick from Mario Rui at the far post with nine minutes left.
