Borini goal enough to secure nervy win over Palermo

Roma almost paid the price for their own wastefulness but ultimately returned to sixth place in Serie A after a 1-0 win over Palermo on Saturday evening. Fabio Borini scored what proved to be the winner in just the third minute, however, the visitors were forced to survive a nervy conclusion in which they ended up hanging on for the points. After taking the lead, Roma continued to turn the screw and pegged Palermo back as they dominated possession in an open first half. Erik Lamela spurned the best opportunity to double their lead when he blasted straight at Palermo goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano. Borini could have put the match to bed midway through the second half but shot narrowly wide. Palermo found their feet as the second half wore on although they could not find a way past Roma shot-stopper Bogdan Lobont. As a result of the win, Roma moved up to 41 points, one ahead of Inter Milan, who had briefly overtaken them in the table with a 2-0 win at Chievo on Friday.
