Bundesliga round-up: Bayern Munich suffer shock defeat as Borussia Dortmund stretch lead

Borussia Dortmund sit three points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table after their dramatic 4-3 victory over Augsburg and a shock 3-0 home defeat for Bayern Munich against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Paco Alcacer settled a dramatic game in Dortmund's favour when he completed his hat-trick in the sixth minute of time added on at the Westfalenstadion.

Augsburg led after 22 minutes when Alfred Finnbogason tapped in from close range following a free-kick, and it took until just after the hour mark for Dortmund to level when Alcacer fired home from Jadon Sancho's low cross.

Parity lasted nine minutes before Philipp Max restored the visitors' lead when he smashed the ball in at the far post but Alcacer responded again when he turned the ball home from a free-kick with 10 minutes to go.

Mario Gotze had Dortmund ahead for the first time in the game four minutes later and though a goalkeeping error saw Michael Gregoritsch's header creep home to level it moments later, Alcacer had the final say with a free-kick at the death.

Bayern Munich had the opportunity to immediately close the gap back to one point in the evening kick-off but instead, their poor form continued as Gladbach made it four games without a win in all competitions for the under-pressure Niko Kovac.

Bayern began promisingly but were hit on the counter-attack by Alassane Plea before Jonas Hofmann robbed Thiago in possession and set up Lars Stindl, who made it 2-0 after 16 minutes in his first appearance since suffering ankle ligament damage in April.

Bayern belatedly put the visitors under pressure late in the second half with Robert Lewandowski having a goal ruled out for offside, but Patrick Herrmann had the final say with a goal in the 88th minute which survived a review on the video monitors for possible handball.

That result sends Gladbach up to second, with Bayern slipping to fifth, four points off the pace.

Hannover recorded their first win of the season as they beat rock-bottom Stuttgart 3-1 thanks to a first-half double from Bobby Wood.

Both of the American's goals came via his head as he scored after half an hour and then in first-half stoppage time.

Mario Gomez pulled a goal back with a low shot from the left but Ihlas Bebou made sure for Hannover when he squeezed the ball home at the far post in stoppage time.

Schalke edged away from the foot of the table too with a 2-0 win away to Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Weston McKennie got the first from close range at the start of the second half before Guido Burgstaller fired in the rebound after Nabil Bentaleb had seen his long-range shot parried.

Mainz and Hertha Berlin shared the spoils in a goalless draw which leaves the capital club fourth.
