Daniel Ginczek's early goal was enough for Stuttgart to claim a much-needed 1-0 victory against Borussia Monchengladbach.
Stuttgart headed into Sunday's match at the Mercedes-Benz Arena without a victory from their last three encounters.
But Ginczek made the most of a fine through ball from Mario Gomez to score the only goal of the game after five minutes.
The win takes Stuttgart four points clear of the relegation places, with Monchengladbach remaining in 10th position.
In the day's second fixture, Florian Kainz scored a brace as Werder Bremen sealed a 3-1 victory against Wolfsburg.
Ludwig Augustinsson opened the scoring for the hosts after just four minutes before Kainz doubled their advantage with a fine long-range effort shortly before the interval.
Paul Verhaegh gave Wolfsburg hope when he scored a rebound penalty after seeing his initial spot-kick saved, but Kainz put the game out of reach for Werder when he netted his second after 72 minutes.
The victory moves Werder to just a single point behind Stuttgart and Wolfsburg in the standings.
