Borussia Dortmund have signed 1860 Munich starlet Moritz Leitner for an undisclosed fee. The 17-year-old will officially make the move when the transfer market reopens on 1st January, but he will remain with the second division club on loan until the end of the season. The youngster, who has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with the Bundesliga high-flyers, had also been linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich after impressing in the second division in this, his first season as a professional.

"I am proud that Borussia Dortmund have faith in me making the step up to the Bundesliga," said Leitner. "For me, I now have to justify this faith. At the moment, though, it is important for me to develop step by step here with the Lions." The Munich side are currently struggling financially, which is why they have been forced to listen to offers for their talented midfielder. "I am glad that I can support the Lions in this difficult time and give something back to the club which gave me a home and an education," said Leitner. Miki Stevic, 1860's director of sport, was also satisfied with the deal he had struck with Dortmund. "They really wanted to integrate Moritz into their Bundesliga squad from the coming winter break and we are glad that we have been able to agree on acceptable terms for the transfer and that Moritz can end the season with us," he said. "Moritz is without a doubt one of the biggest talents in his age group. "His confident way of playing football has quickly aroused the interest of several Bundesliga clubs."
