Maenpaa blunder gifts De Graafschap the points in rearranged fixture

Willem II's Eredivisie relegation worries increased on Wednesday night as they suffered a 1-0 home defeat in their rearranged fixture with De Graafschap. The original game on 12th November had been abandoned after 57 minutes due to torrential rain with the score at 0-0, so only the remaining 33 minutes were played. Sjoerd Overgoor's goal in what was essentially the 81st minute finally decided the contest and leaves Willem II still waiting for a first league win of the season after 15 matches and seven points adrift at the foot of the table. The half-hour was uneventful, but Willem II goalkeeper Niki Maenpaa produced a blunder when attempting to deal with Overgoor's shot to gift the visitors the points. De Graafschap drew level with 11th-placed NAC Breda and 10th-placed NEC Nijmegen on 19 points as a result of their victory, however they stayed in 12th position on goal difference.
