Rochdale have new signing Joe Thompson available for their EFL Cup first-round clash with Chesterfield.

Thompson has returned to his former club on a six-month deal to provide depth in a squad struggling with injuries.

Peter Vincenti, Matty Lund and Ruben Noble-Lazarus are all awaiting return dates while new signing Oliver Rathbone is not yet cleared to make his debut.

Triallist River Humphreys has been released.
