Gareth Southgate has met with Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay in an attempt to persuade him to play for England.

McTominay, who has produced some impressive performances for United's first team this season, has already met with new Scotland boss Alex McLeish as the two countries try to land the promising 21-year-old.

McTominay has been with United's academy since the age of five but, somewhat surprisingly, has not played any international football at youth level.

McTominay has Scottish grandparents and he has attended training camps with Scotland youth-age groups without ever being selected for a squad.
