Swans boss pleased defender had the weekend off

Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers has thanked Gary Speed for omitting Neil Taylor from playing for Wales against Norway last weekend. Taylor sustained an ankle injury in the Swans' goalless draw away to Liverpool prior to the latest international break. The City defender could have featured in the 4-1 win over Norway, but that may have jeopardised his availability to face Manchester United this weekend. Rodgers has assessed Taylor on his return from international duty and feels he can play against the Red Devils, leaving him to thank Speed for his consideration.

Gratitude

"I thanked Gary," explained Rodgers. "I spoke to him on the Sunday after the game. "He took a knock against Liverpool, and he did great to get through the game. "He then met up with the Wales squad but Gary understood it was a friendly and if he had played it may have injured him further. "It was a sensible call and he has come back in and looks fine."
