Tyler's Starting Stats

On Saturday I was at Old Trafford to see Bournemouth avoid defeat in an away game at Manchester United for the first time. They had lost all five previous away games in league and cup and the only goal they'd previously scored in any of those games was a Chris Smalling own goal last season. Josh King therefore became the first Bournemouth player to score away at United.

King has scored eight league goals this season, seven away from home. Six of those eight goals have come in the last nine games.

The match was United's 950th Premier League game, but Artur Boruc's penalty save from Zlatan Ibrahimovic denied them a 600th Premier League win. It was actually Boruc's second penalty save against United; the first was in November 2006 for Celtic from Louis Saha to protect a 1-0 Champions League group stage win.

Man Utd 1-1 Bournemouth

Remarkably, this was United's only Premier League fixture between February 11 and March 19 when they are away to Middlesbrough.

Marcos Rojo scored his first league goal for United - and it was the the 21st Bournemouth had conceded in their last 7.5 league games. They then played 45 minutes with 10 men and didn't concede!

Ibrahimovic took United's fifth penalty of the season, all at home. Their last away penalty was at Newcastle in January 2016.

Wayne Rooney made his 550th United appearance. He is now aiming for Gary Neville on 602, who is the next on the appearance list

United's drawing woes

What is the most draws Man Utd have had in a Premier League season - and how many shots have they had for and against in their draws this season? James Pringle in Dover

MARTIN SAYS: Believe it or not, Manchester United's treble-winning 1998/99 season was the campaign where they had the most draws in the league - 13 in all. However, with 10 already this season and 12 games still to play, that somewhat unwanted record could yet be toppled. They have drawn 38.5 per cent of their games this season compared to 34.2 per cent in 1998/99. They won a treble that season and will be hoping to do the same again (with the Europa League in place of the Premier League).

They have drawn seven home matches this season - which is already more home draws than in any completed Premier League season.

On the six occasions where United have drawn 11 or more games in a season - they have gone on to win the title five times. On the other end of the spectrum, they drew just four games back in 2009/10 when they finished one point behind champions Chelsea.

While the title is out of their grasp this season, Jose Mourinho's side will have to rectify this failure to convert draws into wins if they are to secure a Champions League spot.

A breakdown of each game they have drawn this season shows the staggering amount of shots they have had (178) in contrast to shots faced (75). Only three times in their 10 draws have their opponents had more shots - twice against Liverpool and the other against Everton.

Man Utd's draws this season

Opponent Shots (inc. blocks) Shots faced Difference

Hull (H) 0-0 16 6 10

With or without Alexis?

Since Alexis Sanchez joined Arsenal, what is their record when he does and doesn't start? Paul, London

Alexis Sanchez came on at half-time for Arsenal against Liverpool

MARTIN SAYS: If Arsenal were to lose Alexis Sanchez this season, they'd be losing a huge source of Premier League goals and assists.

Since he joined from Barcelona in August 2014, Arsenal are far better with the Chilean starting games than they are without him. With him starting, they average 1.9 goals per game compared with 1.6 without, and even concede less (1 goal per game compared with 1.2) when he is playing.

Their win percentage is also higher with Sanchez starting (57.0 per cent to 50 per cent), and they earn more points (2 per game compared with 1.7 per game).

Arsenal with and without Alexis Sanchez since August 2014 (PL only)

165 Goals For 26
1.9 Avg. Goals For 1.6

Silva service

Has anyone got more assists than David Silva since he joined the Premier League? Ross Southworth in Manchester

Manchester City's Spanish midfielder David Silva (L) touches hands with Manchester City's Spanish manager Pep Guardiola (R) as Silva is sustituted during t
Image: David Silva continues to impress for Manchester City

MARTIN SAYS: David Silva's assist for Leroy Sane's goal was his 62nd in the league since moving from Valencia seven years ago, and that safely puts him top of the pile since August 2010.

Wayne Rooney is second on 51, while Cesc Fabregas is third with 43 - an impressive feat given that the Spaniard was at Barcelona between 2011 and 2014.

Juan Mata is just one assist behind Fabregas on 42, while it's worth noting that West Brom's Chris Brunt is there on 40, ahead of James Milner, Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla.

It is a compliment to Silva's skill but also his durability. He is very rarely injured, playing 210 games in that time.

Most Premier League assists since August 2010:

  • David Silva (62)
  • Wayne Rooney (51)
  • Cesc Fabregas (43)
  • Juan Mata (42)
  • Chris Brunt (40)
  • James Milner (39)
  • Mesut Ozil (37)
  • Santi Cazorla (35)
  • Eden Hazard, Leighton Baines (34)

Before 24

Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku are both 23. Where do they rank in terms of Premier League goals scored before the age of 24? Craig Ridge-Weich in Wakefield

Harry Kane’s superb strike

MARTIN SAYS: The duo are marching towards 100 Premier League goals at an impressive rate, and look set to do battle for the golden boot come the end of the season. Kane leads with 19 goals, but Lukaku is just one behind - Alexis Sanchez (17) and Diego Costa (16) would do well to keep pace with the pair.

Lukaku and Kane are among good company when looking at the list for the most Premier League goals before the age of 24.

Michael Owen leads the way with a staggering 110 goals, four clear of Robbie Fowler, while Wayne Rooney is down in third with 86.

Lukaku's tally of 78 sees him slot in at fourth, one ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo - with Harry Kane sixth on 68 strikes.

With Lukaku turning 24 in May and Kane doing so in July, the pair will look to make their way up the list - though catching Owen and Fowler is virtually impossible. All very impressive nevertheless!

Premier League goals before the age of 24

Wayne Rooney 86 232
Romelu Lukaku 78 175
