Granada gain promotion thanks to away goals rule

Granada have won promotion to the Primera Liga for the first time in 35 years after drawing 1-1 in Elche in the Spanish second division playoff final second-leg on Saturday. The first leg ended goalless, but striker Odion Jude Ighalo put the visitors in front after 28 minutes of the second. The Nigerian dribbled around the goalkeeper and kept his composure to beat another defender before scoring. However, Elche pulled a goal back through Xumetra ten minutes from time to set up a nerve-wracking finale. But after returning to the second division after 22 years, Chairman Quique Pina will be delighted with the side from Andalusia, who will play alongside Sevilla and Real Betis in the top-flight once again. Granada last graced the Primera division in the 1975-76 season and were playing in the fourth tier of Spanish football just six years ago.
