Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho admits he was shocked to see England bow out of the World Cup so early.
But the Brazilian midfielder, who missed out on a place in their World Cup squad, admitted it may be good for Liverpool that the likes of Steven Gerrard, Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson are heading home early.
Losses to Italy and Uruguay mean England know they cannot progress ahead of their final Group D game with Costa Rica on Tuesday.
"It surprised me because I thought they would go further," he told Placar.
He then joked: "I thought they would meet Brazil in the final! But on the other hand this is even a good thing as my Liverpool team-mates will be more rested for the pre-season."
Coutinho was, though, pleased with team-mate Luis Suarez, who returned from knee surgery to inspire Uruguay to a 2-1 win over England as he claimed both goals.
"Suarez is a big friend, I am happy for him. He returned and managed to help his national team. We know the difficulties he has gone through," he continued.
Coutinho admis that he is already growing tired of being away from football and cannot wait for pre-season to start next month.
"I am very anxious. I cannot wait to start the pre-season," he said. "A week here, watching games on television, is already driving me crazy."
