Atlanta United sign Florentin Pogba on free transfer

xxxx during the UEFA Europa League Round of 32 second leg match between AS Saint-Etienne and Manchester United at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard on February 22, 2017 in Saint-Etienne, France.

Defending MLS champions Atlanta United have signed defender Florentin Pogba, brother of Manchester United midfielder Paul, on a free transfer.

The 28-year-old defender joins the MLS Cup winners after seeing his contract run out with Turkish club Genclerbirligi.

"We're pleased to officially welcome Florentin to our club," said club vice president and technical director Carlos Bocanegra.

"He's a physical centre back who also has the ability to play with his feet. He also brings an immense amount of experience after representing his club and country in various international tournaments and we expect him to compete for playing time on our backline."

Pogba previously spent seven years with Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne having started his professional career with Sedan in France's fourth tier.

Unlike younger brother Paul, who won the World Cup representing France last summer, Florentin has made 21 appearances for the Guinea national side.

Atlanta's second top-scorer Miguel Almiron joined Newcastle in a club-record £21m deal on Deadline Day.
