Roma have signed German defender Antonio Rudiger on a long-term contract until 2020, making permanent his loan move from Stuttgart for a fee of 9m euros (£7.6m), the Italian club said on Tuesday.
The deal also includes additional payment of 500,000 euros, depending on specific sporting clauses.
The 23-year old joined the Italian club on a one-year loan deal in September for an initial fee of 4m euros and has made 30 appearances in Serie A. He had previously made 66 appearances for Stuttgart in the Bundesliga, scoring twice.
Stuttgart posted on their website: "Roma have exercised their option to buy Antonio Rudiger and have thus signed the 23-year-old on a permanent basis.
Rudiger is currently training with the Germany squad ahead of the European Championship in France.
He has won 10 caps for Germany so far, making his debut in 2014. However, he wasn't part of their World Cup-winning squad in Brazil.
