Alaves missed the chance to join Barcelona and Real Madrid at the top of La Liga as Getafe held them 1-1 at Mendizorroza.
Amath Ndiaye controversially fired Getafe ahead 10 minutes from time, but Jonathan Calleri rescued a point for Alaves with a stoppage-time header.
Alaves were awarded a 41st-minute penalty when former West Ham striker Calleri was brought down by a combination of goalkeeper David Soria and midfielder Mauro Arambarri - but Ibai Gomez's spot-kick was too close to Soria, who had correctly moved to his left.
Alaves defender Victor Laguardia rose superbly to head against the crossbar after the restart.
But Getafe took the lead after the video assistant referee allowed Ndiaye's firm strike to stand, even though Jaime Mata had appeared to handle in the build-up.
Calleri helped Alaves into fourth place, however, when he met Ximo Navarro's cross in the third of the five extra minutes.
Real Valladolid climbed off the bottom of the table with a 2-1 win at home to 10-man Levante.
Sergio Postigo (47) gave Levante the lead, but Enes Unal (50) and Nacho Martinez (56) scored either side of Nikola Vukcevic's 54th-minute dismissal.
Real Betis were deserved 1-0 winners at Girona to move into eighth place.
Loren Moron converted Francis' 64th-minute cross to settle matters, with Cristhian Stuani going closest for Girona when he struck a post soon after.
