Ajax claw home draw; Heerenveen slip up in Euro quest

Ajax rescued a point in the Eredivisie while bottom side FC Volendam recorded a rare away win. Ajax recovered from a two-goal deficit to go a point clear of Steve McClaren's FC Twente after Miralem Sulejmani's 70th-minute goal and Luis Suarez's penalty two minutes later prevented Heracles from grabbing an impressive away win in Amsterdam. Heracles, who have now failed to win in their last six outings, stormed into a 2-0 lead thanks to Ricky van den Bergh and Vojtech Schulmeister's first half goals, but the mid-table side were to be denied by a late Ajax response. FC Volendam did their survival hopes the world of good after coming from a goal behind to beat Willem II 2-1 at the Willem II Stadium. Ergan Swenkals opened the scoring for the home side after sticking away a penalty with five minutes gone. But basement boys Volendam turned the tables with Rowin Van Zaanen equalising on 58 minutes, before defender Henny Schilder snatched a late winner in the 85th minute. Heerenveen's European ambitions were dealt a blow as lowly Vitesse Arnhem scored late on to claim the three points. The match looked as if it was going to end all square, until Nick Hofs sent the home fans into raptures with an 84th-minute winner.
