Merson's Predictions

Paul Merson is back with his latest round of Premier League predictions...

Fulham and Watford kick the Premier League weekend off at Craven Cottage on Saturday lunchtime.

Focus remains on London in Renault Super Sunday when Chelsea travel to West Ham before Arsenal host Everton.

Read on to see who the Magic Man is backing this week…

Fulham v Watford (Saturday live from 11.30am on Sky Sports Premier League)

Watford are doing well, even in their defeat to Manchester United they had a chance at the end. I think Watford will be a bit too cute for Fulham and use their experience to get the result. They've been in the Premier League too long and I see them putting in a wily performance.

PAUL PREDICTS: 1-2 (10/1 with Sky Bet)

West Ham v Chelsea (Super Sunday live from 11.30am on Sky Sports Premier League)

I fancied West Ham last week, I couldn't see them getting beat at Everton. I thought they would be better away from home this season and would struggle at home. But this game looks after itself, Chelsea at home, the fans will be right behind them.

But I just don't think they can live with Eden Hazard. West Ham will have their spells in the game but it won't be enough. Hazard is up there with the best in the world at the moment.

PAUL PREDICTS: 1-3 (11/1 with Sky Bet)

Live Renault Super Sunday

Arsenal v Everton (Super Sunday live from 3.30pm on Sky Sports Premier League)

It was a poor result for Everton on Sunday, they are on a bit of a run now - they've hit a brick wall. I know they hadn't been beaten until last week but they hadn't won a lot of games. I think Arsenal will have too much movement for them, you only have to look at how West Ham picked them off. I expect Arsenal to do the same. Everton have drawn too many games. When you draw a few games you cannot afford to lose the next, that's the problem.

PAUL PREDICTS: 3-0 (10/1 with Sky Bet)

Live Renault Super Sunday

Burnley v Bournemouth (Saturday, 3pm)

This is a big game for Burnley after they were given the absolute run-around at Wolves. I've seen a lot of 1-0 defeats in my time but none as one-sided as that in a long time, it could have been a cricket score.

I said at the start of the season that Burnley wouldn't repeat the big results they got at the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham last season, and when you strip those points away the club that finished seventh last season, they could find themselves in a relegation battle.

Highlights: Wolves 1-0 Burnley

This a big game for Burnley, they've got to come out and have a go. If they do though, Bournemouth are so quick on the break that they are going to score goals.

PAUL PREDICTS: 1-2 (11/1 with Sky Bet)

Cardiff v Manchester City (Saturday, 3pm)

I remember Cardiff gave City a real run for their money at home in the FA Cup. Defeat to Lyon in the Champions League will have really dented City's confidence, Lyon could have picked them off and had four or five.

What I always find with City is that they are a frontrunner kind of team, if they hit the front they are like the Harlem Globetrotters, if they go behind their shape, everything, completely and utterly goes out of the window.

Premier League Weekend Preview

That being said I do expect them to win the game, but Cardiff will make it difficult for them from set plays, there's no doubt about that.

Cardiff have had a real go and their results haven't been for the lack of trying, they just lack a bit of guile. Hazard was the difference last week against Chelsea, and that's a compliment.

PAUL PREDICTS: 1-3 (11/1 with Sky Bet)

Crystal Palace v Newcastle (Saturday, 3pm)

Palace were very fortunate last week at Huddersfield. Newcastle were a touch unlucky against Arsenal, they were the better team in the first half but as soon as they went behind, wow, they completely and utterly went. From a Newcastle perspective that worries me, I see Palace just edging this one.

PAUL PREDICTS: 1-0 (6/1 with Sky Bet)

Highlights: Huddersfield 0-1 Crystal Palace

Leicester v Huddersfield (Saturday, 3pm)

Leicester were another side that were fortunate last week, things could have got embarrassing at Bournemouth. Two late goals softened the blow and a 4-2 defeat to those that didn't watch the game doesn't look as bad as 4-0, but they were battered.

You don't know what you're going to get from Leicester. They could turn up this week and put three or four past Huddersfield and you wouldn't flinch. I think Jamie Vardy will have too much for the Terriers and Leicester will get back on the winning track.

Liverpool v Southampton (Saturday, 3pm)

Liverpool were outstanding against Paris Saint-Germain, outstanding. They made PSG look terrible - there is no chance they [PSG] can win the Champions League.

I switched the Southampton v Brighton game off at half-time thinking it was dead and buried, Brighton were atrocious and Southampton were much improved.

But then I woke up to images of Glenn Murray celebrating on the Sky Sports app and wondered how that had happened? I couldn't believe it.

The Saints should have won that game but I don't see them having a chance against Liverpool. They look very good, they are all playing well.

Man Utd v Wolves (Saturday, 3pm)

Who in their wildest dreams would have even considered Wolves winning at Old Trafford not so long ago? Now all of a sudden I'm tentatively backing United to win, that's a testament to how far Wolves have come. United got a great result on Wednesday away at Young Boys.

Highlights: Watford 1-2 Man Utd

That pitch looked atrocious, it looked like wood painted green and reminded me of the old surface at QPR where you used to have to wear trainers! I think United's quality will be a little too much for Wolves to handle.

PAUL PREDICTS: 3-1 (12/1 with Sky Bet)

Brighton v Tottenham (Saturday, 5.30pm)

I don't know what's happened with Tottenham. They played well against Inter Milan and then lost the game - they've probably played worse this season and won.

They are stuck in a rut and need something from this game. I don't care who you are but you cannot turn that run of form around in an instant, especially when you consider Brighton at home are a completely different prospect.

Highlights: Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool

Chris Hughton must pull his hair out at the difference between his side's form at home and away, but they fought back last week when they looked out of the game at Southampton. Spurs have played well in games and still lost, after a while that takes its toll.

PAUL PREDICTS: 1-1 (6/1 with Sky Bet)
