BABAYARO`S HOME ALONE

THE Celestine Babayaro mystery came a step closer to reaching a conclusion when it emerged that the player was stranded in Nigeria following rioting in his native country.

The player`s club, Chelsea, stated on Sunday that they were going to contact Fifa to try and help clear up the affair.

However, the 21-year-old`s guardian, Alhaji Sabo Babayaro, spoke to the French press agency AFP, on Monday, saying that he was trapped in Kaduna, northern Nigeria.

"Neither Chelsea nor the NFA have contacted Celestine about his whereabouts," said the guardian. "He has been in Kaduna resting his groin injury."

"He was supposed to leave Kaduna for Lagos on his way back to London but as I speak to you there is a civil disturbance in the city so Celestine is trapped."

According to Babayaro`s guardian, the player does not know what all the furore is about because both Chelsea and the Nigerian FA have his home number in Kaduna.
